Scrolldaddy creates your own private DNS server, which is the way your web browser converts domain names (google.com) into addresses. By having your own dns server you can filter out any websites that you choose so that your browser and your apps cannot see them. In this way ScrollDaddy is better than alternatives that run on your computer because web traffic is blocked before it even reaches you.
Control-D is a company that we partner with to make our system work. The apps are very simple. They tell your device to use different DNS servers rather than your old ones, so that we can block websites for you. Control-D runs these servers for us. Once you finish installation, these apps do nothing until you decide to cancel our service.
ScrollDaddy blocks websites at the DNS level, which means it blocks your device from converting "www.facebook.com" into an address. Some apps, including Facebook, save that ip address in its memory for a while. Some apps also store old posts in your feed locally, and ScrollDaddy cannot force the apps to discard this data.
If you are dealing with doomscrolling or social media addiction and want to use ScrollDaddy, we recommend you uninstall the apps and only use the web interface.
Alternately, you can close the app and reopen it, turn airplane mode off/on, or restart your phone.
Private Relay is VPN service provided by Apple that sends some requests from your Apple device to servers operated by Apple, which then forward the traffic to other servers not operated by Apple.
By default, ScrollDaddy will block mask.icloud.com and mask-h2.icloud.com domains, which will disable Private Relay.
ScrollDaddy disables Private Relay for a good reason - using both services at the same time is not a good idea because both services do similar things.
